*History of Yoga Day*
On September 27, 2014, the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi in the United General Assembly appealed to all the countries of the world to celebrate Yoga Day. Accepting Prime Minister Modi’s proposal, the United Nations General Assembly announced the organization of International Yoga Day in just three months. Then in 2015, the world celebrated Yoga Day for the first time.

*Why is Yoga Day celebrated on 21st June?*
It has been decided to celebrate 21st June as Yoga Day. There is also a reason to celebrate June 21 as Yoga Day. This date is the longest day in the Northern Hemisphere. It is called summer solstice.
According to Indian tradition, the sun is in Dakshinayana after the summer solstice. Surya Dakshinayan period is effective for attaining spiritual accomplishments. For this reason, International Yoga Day is celebrated on June 21 every year.

*Theme of International Yoga Day 2023*
The theme of Yoga Day 2023 is ‘Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’. Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam means – Earth is family. This theme refers to the usefulness of yoga for the health of all people on earth.
