The report gives a score based on the policy regarding salt reduction. This score ranges from 1 to 4. 1 is the lowest score and 4 is the highest score. 1 contains countries that have made a commitment to reduce salt consumption. At a score of 2 there are countries that have taken steps to reduce salt consumption but are voluntary, not mandatory. At the same time, in countries where the amount of sodium is stated on the packaged foods. India’s score is two. A score of 3 is for countries that have made efforts to reduce the amount of salt in food by making necessary regulations. Also a score of 4 is for countries that have created at least two mandatory policy rules to indicate sodium content in packaged foods to regulate salt content.

According to WHO, salt content is written on packaged food in India. However, the practice of warning of extra salt on the front side of the packet has not yet started.
