Currently summer has started. Drinking buttermilk, shahale, syrup is very important in this season. Curd is very beneficial. It is more effective if the curd is mixed with a little water and made buttermilk.

Many properties of buttermilk have been mentioned in Ayurveda. It has cleansing properties for the body’s digestive system. Drinking a glass of salted buttermilk after a meal helps digestion a lot.


The buttermilk that remains after removing the butter is a highly effective digestive juice enhancer. Unpasteurized buttermilk is nutritious. But it is hard to digest and expectorant.


*Benefits of drinking buttermilk…*

*1. Kapha dosha is reduced when consumed with curd, black pepper and pippali.

*2. Regular consumption of buttermilk improves the digestive power of your body. Hemorrhoids, constipation are reduced. In Ayurveda, drinking buttermilk regularly is a home remedy for hemorrhoids.

*3. If there is pain while urinating, drink fresh and diluted buttermilk.

*4. Sweet buttermilk is choleretic. Adding sugar to sweet buttermilk and drinking it reduces pitta.

*5. In case of Vata dosha, drink Admure Buttermilk with Suntha and Saindhava.



Buttermilk drunk after lunch is most effective. You can take buttermilk during breakfast in the morning. It is also good for health.

*Following precautions should be taken while drinking buttermilk…*
Do not drink too much buttermilk during rainy season. Also, don’t drink too sour buttermilk.
